People need to make better decisions…

I was privy to a situation this weekend that I would not have believed if I hadn’t seen it… lucky for this gentleman that he chose Dogzlife dogs to practice his irresponsible antics on… let me explain…

Me and my girlfriend were enjoying a hike at Runyon Canyon in the Hollywood Hills of LA. Both our dogs were with us and had finished running around blowin’ off some pent up energy. Both dogs were off leash and about 10 feet in front of us just cruisin’, sniffin’ the ground and what not, when some dude with headphones on comes jogging past us. First off, he runs into my girlfriend as he passes by… the trail at this point is 20 feet wide. After he passes us he chooses to straddle/leapfrog over my pitbull as he runs by, who was slightly startled by the surprise from behind, and then proceeds to do the same to our 80 pound Weimaraner… not the smartest of decisions this guy could make.

Part of the lifestyle training our dogs receive at Dogzlife, is a heavy dose of desensitization. This could not have been a better example of how this aspect of training comes into play in our day to day activities. But really, how often does someone approach you from behind and surprisingly leapfrog over both your dogs? Not often, but we work tirelessly so that our dogs are prepared for just about anything we can throw at ’em.

Now if this guy had chosen some other dogs to jump over, the outcome may have been a bit different. Imagine if our Pitbull was NOT accustomed to being surprised from behind… this guy could very well have been bitten rather badly. I cannot stress strongly enough how training your dog to the standards of Tyson Kilmer’s training at Dogzlife saved not only the possibility of a less than favorable outcome for the jogger, but also saved our Pitbull, which would have inevitably had this accident blamed on her if she had chosen to react aggressively, and also saved US as a family major stress, had we needed to deal with the “other” outcome, and who knows what else…

In short, “be the change you want to see for your dogs out in the world!!!”  What could have been a very ugly situation all around, merely left the two of us scratchin’ our heads thinking how people need to make better decisions!!!

Ugh, this incident showcases how bad people behavior causes dog bites, not bad dog behavior.

  2. Totally agree. Absolutely love the photo! 😀
