Out with the Dogs

This past Memorial Holiday weekend was a perfect time to be out and about. Our dogs went pretty much everywhere with us… because they can! What I mean by that is their behavior, obedience and temperament opens just about every door available to dogs.

Granted our two dogs are quite striking as a pair wherever they go, but at every stop along the way this weekend, they drew a small crowd… from The Gap, to the extremely crowded New Balance store, to the surprisingly not so crowded Apple Store, to the outdoor mall… everywhere we went, they were like a kid magnet.

Our dogs weigh more than most kids, so it is absolutely imperative that Manu & Chouka have perfect and flawless social skills… especially when first approached. We would have made some nice coin this weekend had we been given a dollar for every photo that was recorded of them.

Their obedience also becomes such a topic of conversation. We met an international mix of peeps from as far down under as Australia, and even many non-English speaking visitors from Japan. Our dogs are the perfect liaison to meeting so many people of which we would otherwise pass right by.

No language barrier for this lil’ Asian girl, who was completely enamored by Manu… she was squealing with delight!! Yet Manu never budged from his passive command (apologies, not my best photo). She was obsessed with picking up Manu’s foot (dunno why), but the point being is to illustrate that Manu was compliant to whatever this little girl did, which he is trained to do. It was such a blast just sitting and watching her enjoy herself with Manu.

They insisted on taking in some of their favorite outdoor art in Santa Monica before heading home Saturday afternoon… ya know, it makes ’em feel well-travelled and cultured!

Manu and Chouka create lasting positive memories in the minds of many…!!!

How great is it to be able to share the love we have for our dogs with others. Their desire to please and trained obedience make this all possible. I take Busey the beach in eevery Sunday and he has never had an issue or altercation. Everyone marvels at this enormous Pitbull that just wants to run, dig holes and swim after his ball. I am so thankful for all the time we have spent, and still spend making him a joy to be out in the world with. As always, your photos, dogs, stories, and quotes are an inspiration.

  2. How lucky are you!!! Our one dog is extremely friendly – but for some or other reason only listens when he deems necessary – were thinking about having him neutered (or spayed?? – I don’t know what it’s called in english??) Maybe that will help! It could be the basset in him – he is a lab-basset – (we’ve heard they have obedience problems…)? At least he is super friendly to all/every dog & person!! 🙂 Our other dog is a lab-bulldog – super obedient with the best personality!! Very loving (once again to all/every person & dog!!)… 😀 **

    • lucky yes, but we have worked hard on our training and developing a connection with our dogs in order to live this type of lifestyle. Don’t except anything less than what you desire of your dog’s behavior… you all can have it all!!
